Uttarakhand Government on Thursday emphatically suspends the Char Dham Yatra amid a massive Covid surge due to the second wave of the pandemic.
The Yatra was earlier scheduled to start from May 14 but, CM Tirath Singh Rawat decided to suspend it for this year. The Char Dham Yatra consists of traveling to the 4 most reputed pilgrimage of Hinduism that is Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri. CM Tirath Singh Rawat said in his statement that the Yatra is suspended for this year and only priests of those shrines are allowed to perform Rituals or Puja.
According to the Union Health Ministry, the state has recorded 6054 fresh cases and 108 people deceased by taking the toll of active cases to 45383. The emergence of the cases in the state has severely risen to dreadful conditions.
CM Tirath Singh Rawat when asked about what caused a severe spike in the Covid-19 cases in the state he replied that Uttarakhand is surrounded by the major states like Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh from where the critical patients often travel to the state for the treatment.
Thus, suspending the religious gatherings and the closer of the shrines for the common public is very much needed as it has been seen in last few days that how Delhi’s Nizamuddin Markaz and Kumbha Mela at Haridwar witnessed a huge number of cases. The country is witnessing an unanticipated rise in the Covid-19 cases as India records nearly 380000 fresh cases and 3646 deceased in the last 24 hours taking the number of active cases to 3084814 in the country.
