“In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (2) of section 1 of the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Act 2021 (15 of 2021), the Central Government hereby appoints the 27th April 2021 as the date on which the provisions of the said Act shall come into force,” the additional secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) Govind Mohan signed the notification.

However, it has become mandatory for Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to seek the advice of the LG Anil Baijal before taking any type of executive decision. The full control of the government lies under the LG now.

Earlier, AAP leaders started a protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on March 17 to oppose the proposed bill in the parliament. AAP leaders termed this bill as unconstitutional and anti-democratic. The GNCT act was passed by the parliament last month amid a walkout of the opposition parties.

Under the harsh situation arise due to the massive surge in the Covid19 cases.  Now the Central Government is having a strong point to defend itself over the imposition of the GNCT act.

Therefore, through this act, the LG Anil Baijal is now holding the superior office in National Capital as the representative of the Centre. Through, this move the Central government has full control over the national Capital and this will make the center liable for all the achievements and failures of the Capital.
