The earthquake of 6.4 magnitudes measured on the Richter scale struck the northeastern states early Morning on Wednesday. The epicenter of the earthquake was recorded at a road of Sonitpur, Assam, and tremors of that felt even in North Bengal. After a first major earthquake, it is followed by the 7 aftershocks which lie between 3.2 to 4.7 magnitudes.

The injuries were not reported due to the earthquake to anyone but the cases of minor damages reported as several walls are broken, some of them developed cracks, and broken windows were also seen in the photographs.

According to the National Centre of Seismology, the earthquake is recorded as 6.4 magnitudes on the Richter scale which is originated at the Sonitpur, Tezpur of Assam. It lies 17 km under the surface and 43 km west of the Tezpur.

This type of major disastrous phenomenon is reported after 60 years in the northeastern region. The northeast states lie under Zone V which is believed to be the most devastated region of the six most seismically affected regions on the earth. The earthquake takes place closer to the Kopili fault near the Himalayan Frontal Thrust (HFT) which is also known as Main Frontal Thrust recognized as the geological boundary between the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates.

Thus, the earthquake which is being witnessed in the northeastern states is associated with only tectonic plate movement which is triggered rapidly in the few last months as the country witnessed many cyclones and earthquakes. The nature calamity can also be treated as an astonishing event that can happen at any place or at any time.
